Definitivno LJUDJE in AVTOBUSI.

* * * * * * * * *

Hi everyone … we are home one month already and still no pictures online :/. And there is a good reason for this … It takes a loooot of time to process and edit 18.000+ images (yes, I am a bit crazy … or a lot).

Now we can start at the begining. First of all … we should visit Phillipines and not Sri Lanka. But we were lucky and we got really cheap plane tickets. Tickets from Trieste to Colombo costed us 350 EUR. Well … if we knew that after that we could get tickets to Phillippines for only about 300 EUR, we would probably wait . But we do not regret at all!

What to say about Sri Lanka? What we will remeber the most? Definetly PEOPLE and BUSES. You will soon understand why. Kindness and helpfulness of local people are unbelivable and bus rides are sooooo crazy. Terrifying overtaking, jumping on and off moving bus, terrible crowd on the bus … those things are very common in Sri Lanka.

* * *
Waiting at the airport sucks … allways! And it sucks even more if you are waiting at such boring airport as one in Trieste. And ofcourse we were sooo early because of my (Matic) fear of being late. It gets even better … my wifey (Urša) has this “awesome” habit of allways(!!!!!) being late.

Še vedno imam slabo vest, ker sem jedel sendvič za 4,6 eur …
* * *
I still feel bad for eating sandwich for 4,6 eur …

Tehtanje nahrbtnikov … skupaj okroglih 30kg.
* * *
Our backpacks weighing … exactly 30kg both. Beside that we carried also photo rucksack which weighed around 10kgs, Bag for photo lenses and two smaller backpacks which should be worn by our boys. The focus is on “should be”!

In čakanje se nadaljuje …
* * *
And waiting continues …

Končno napoči čas za vkrcanje. Alitalia … the best!!! Izredno prijazno osebje, čisti avioni in dobiš celo kavo in nekakšne krekerje. Prvi, enourni let do Rima je bil super …
* * *
Finally it is boarding time. Alitalia … the best!!! Really nice staff, clean airplane and you even get coffe and some crackers. It was a pleasant one hour flight to Rome …

Letališče v Rimu. Na prestop smo čakali 3h. Hvala bogu je bilo tukaj bolj zanimivo.
* * *
Rome airport. We were waiting for our flight to Colombo for three hours. Thank god this airport was more interesting than one in Trieste.

Hmmmmm … Ampak bili smo hudo lačni in …
* * *
Hmmmmm … if I thought that big sandwich for 4,6 eur before was expensive … what the hell? Like we spent the night here. But we were hungry, so …

* * *
Three hours passed quickly. In the meantime nothing special happened except one thing. Gal (older boy) opened doors secured with an alarm and it started ringing all over the airport hahahahahahaha

Hvala bogu ta otrok ni bil moj 🙂
* * *
Thank god this was not my child 🙂

* * *
And here the real journey begins. 11 hour night flight from Rome to Colombo. Kids loved the plane. They had their own touch screens and unlimited access to games and cartoons … what do you need more :). What to say about the flight … I would rate Srilankan Airlines with 5/10. Friendliness of the flight attendants was somewhere at level of friendliness of average Slovenian shop salesman. They were trying to really be nice but they were only half successful. We also didn’t get child menus for kids, so they were preety much hungry for 11 hours. I personally liked the food … but I actually eat almost anything 😛

No tukaj mi je to uspelo za 1h :/
* * *
Kids finally give up after more than half way. I feel terrible on tha planes so it is really hard for me to fall asleep. I maneged to sleep one hour on this one :/

* * *
We got off the plane, claim our luggage it is time to change clothes and face new adventures. It didn’t take long for my first adventure … when I went to toilete I found this. PRICELESS!!! Hahahahahahahaha

NEGOMBO – Bandaranaike International Airport

* * *
Beside our friend Domen with whom we were meeting, there were also warm sunrays greeting us at the exit. To tell you the truth, meeting with Domen was a great idea. Not only traveling with him was so much fun, he was also quite usefull :). In those three days he did his best to introduce us the local customs, use of buses and communication with the locals. Another advantage of travelling with Domen was that I didn’t have to drink beer alone … hahahahah

Na cca 10 minut hoje oddaljeni avtobusni postaji srečamo tole psičko z 9 mladički :). Žal smo tekom potovanja srečali še nešteto psov brez lastnika. V bistvu smo videlo zelo, zelo malo psov, z lastniki.
* * *
Bus station was about 10 minutes walk away from the airport. There we met this girl with 9 puppies :). Unfortunatley we’ve met sooo many dogs in bad condition. Basically we saw just a few dogs which had owners. Most of dogs in Sri Lanka live on the street. The interesting thing is, almost none of them is malnourished.

No še prekmalu smo spoznali kakšnih vragolij so sposobne, če le imajo za volanom pravega voznika :).
* * *
This is bus fleet on one of bus stations in Negombo :). When we first saw those old, rusty, worn out buses, we just couldn’t belive that they are even able to move. Well, we found out soon enough what they are capable of, if you put a crazy driver behind the wheel :). I have to mention here that bus connections in Sri Lanka are great and prices are extremely low. In 18 days we didn’t wait for bus more than 10-15 minutes and the pirces were fluctuating between 30 cents and 4 euros (for all 4 of us!!!)

* * *
With this prehistoric busour “road trip” started :). I will not wrtie about the bus condition, because pictures says more than enough. But I would like to describe the ride … CRAAAAAZZZZZZYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!! Probably we were just lucky and our first bus driver was the wildest, so we will never forget this ride. It was a perfect start of our adventure. Bus cost 75 rupees (little less than 0,5 eur)

* * *
When we arrived in center of Negombo, first of all we took our backpacks to hotel (more about hotel later) and than we went to fish market where we meet Domen. Tuk tuk ride from bus station to hotel and then to fish market costs us 500 rupees (little over 3 euros). The first thing that you can’t miss is really … really … REALLY BAD STENCH! Picture yourself a huge amount of fresh fish, lying on the sun for whole day. Beside that fish market is a “must see” place in Negombo. There is a small part of market on the road and a bigger part on the beach. Fishermen are drying fishes on the beach. While we were walking arond a really kind fisherman stopped us and showed us around and explained to us how they dry fishes. He also told us some things about himself. He works 6 days per week and 10 hour per day. His sallary is 4 eur/day :/. He says that he is taking english lessons, because when he will learn english he will get the job at hotel where the sallary will be 8 eur/day and he will be happy. We gave him 200 rupees (about 1,5 eur)

* * *
This is how they clean fish on the market … offal and casings are just laying there and rot on the street. Smell is really something special, but if ou ask us it is worth to endure 🙂

čeprav ponesreči in oblečen :).
* * *
We were on the beach, so we have to jump into water … ofcourse this jump was accindental and fully chloted :). But the water is warm and air also, so little mister dryied up quickly …

Takole izgledajo tune (levo) in kalamari (desno, med sušenjem …
* * *
Tuna fish (left) and squids (right) while drying on the beach …

To je ribič o katerem sem govoril prej. Stric je bil res prijazen in res faca. Upam, da čimprej dobi željeno, bolje plačano službo!
* * *
This is the nice fisherman I was talking about earlier. He was really really cool. I hope he finds a new better job soon!

Krave … povsod :). Na plaži, po cesti, po poljih … povsod 🙂
* * *
Cows … everywher :). On the beach, road, fields … litteraly everywhere 🙂

* * *
A quick walk around streets of Negombo. To tell you the truth … nothing special.

Naše kosilo. Za prvi dan je seveda obvezno treba poizkusiti njihovo najbolj razširjeno jed … curry in pražene nudlne. Dahl, pol sambol in chicken cuury dobiš na Šri Lanki vedno in povsod. Vse peče (zelo) in večinoma strežejo mrzlo.
* * *
Our lunch. For the fist time we had to try some typical Sri Lankan food … curry and fried nuudles. You can get dhal, pol sambol and chicken curry enytime and enywhere in Sri Lanka. All those curries are very spicy and mostly served cold. Food in Sri Lanka is really average but very hot. In a few days we find out that for kids they can prepare rice without all hot spices … so they ate rice and chocolatte pancakes for 18 days. Suprisingly they are still alive :).
Price for this lunch … rice with curry, fried noodles and two lemonades costs us 330 rupees (2 eur). All portions there are so big, taht we never ordered seperate protions for all four of us. Two portions were allways enough.

* * *
Our Lan (5 years) said it was time for sleep 🙂

No pa smo v hotelu. Rezervirali smo ga preko Bookinga, ker smo imeli prejšnje leto v Maroku težave na letališču, ker nismo imeli rezerviranega prenočišča. Torej …vsekakor priporočam … House Of Esanya (klik) … same pohvale.
* * *
Since we are extremely tired and one kid felt asleep with his mouth full of dinner it is time to go to hotel. On the way I buy two beers for 320 rupees (2 uer). Interesting thing is that you can buy alcohol only in Wine shops and prices around country are very different because of different taxes in different parts of the country.
And here we are in the hotel. We made the reservation on Booking.com, because in Morocco in 2014 we had some problems at the airport since we did not know where we will stay the first night. So … we would definitely recommend … House Of Esanya (click). We have nothing bad to say about it. Altough the front yard does not inspire confidence (Urša was actually quite pissed off for the moment, why I booked this hotel 🙂 ), inside is really nice, cleand and owner is very very kind and accomodating. And she makes great coffe :). Price for one night was 3600 rupees (23 eur) and this was one of the most expensive stays in Sri Lanka. For extra 400 ruppes (almost 3 eur) owner made us a very tasteful dinner (chicken curry, pancakes, bread, muffins …)
