* * *
Hi,

finally here is the next part of our adventure. I am sure you can’t wait to read it 😉

DAY 3 – DAMBULLA, SIGIRYA

Dan se je zečel zelo zgodaj in zelo zanimivo. Vstali smo ob petih, pojedli zajtrk (toast, maslo, jajca, marmelado in kavo), se zrihtali in se s tuk tukom odpravili do avtobusne postaje …
* * *
Our day begins very early and in a very interestig way. We wake up at 5 o’clock, eat breakfast (toast, butter, eggs, jam and coffe), get ready and take a tuk tuk to the bus station …

… kjer smo bili ob šestih zmenjeni z Domnom.
* * *
… where we are meeting Domen at 6 o’clock. Well, Domen was not there of course because he overslept :). We knew the name of his hotel, but not the adress … and the wandering around Negombo starts. At the end, the employee of bus station solves our problem … he drives me to Domens hotel with his scotter … for free :). We woke up Domen around seven o’clock we start the day full of cool adventures …

* * *
And now ACTION … in this moment our adventure really begins :). Today our plan is to find a place to stay in Dambulla wher we will spend two nights. Today we’ll go to take a look of Sigirya, tomorrow Anuradhapura and the third day Pollonaruwa. Those three places will also be the content of todays post …

* * *
First we take a bus ride to Kurunegala where we will switch bus to the one which goes to Dambulla (there is no direct bus to Dambulla from Negombo). The ride is wild as it should be on Sri Lanka, but the bus is aircondotioned and not as close as good as the old randown buses with no windows and doors :). It is little more than two hours drive and the bus costs 740 rupees (approx. 5 eur). This bus is more expensive because it is airconditioned.

Tale napis mi je bil pač všeč 🙂
* * *
I just like those words 🙂

* * *
The bustle on this station is just unbelivable. Actually there is so much traffic that even for adult is hard to have everything under control and safely walk around. For kids that is literally impossible.

Preden gremo je treba še malce poservisirat avtobus …
* * *
Before we go a bus needs some quick repairs …

Prijazni ata …
* * *
Mr. Nice guy 🙂

Takole zgleda avtobus od znotraj 🙂
* * *
That is how the bus interior looks like 🙂

* * *
This was also an interesting thing … this is how ALL bus conductors are collecting money. They have invoice printer attached to one hand (in smal cities they write invoices by hand) and in the other hand each and every one of them carries money all day long.

* * *
People sell so many things on the buses … mango and mixed fruit juice are delicious … we were buying them all the time. They are cheap, tasty and there when you need them :). Price for 0,5 liter bottle is between 100 and 150 rupees (0,7 – 1 eur).

Ok … tale poza zmaga hahahahahahahaha
* * *
I don’t know if you noticed, but this is the third picture of this guy (lokk a few photos back) and I took the pictures on the different sides of city (unintentionally). Ok … this pose is a winner hahahahahahaha

Šri lanške novice … popolnoma neberljivo :).
* * *
Srilankan news … completely unreadable 🙂

* * *
Bus ride from Kurunegala to Dabulla lasts three hours and of course it is a crazy ride again :). Here are some clicks …

Malce zaskrbljeno gremo z njim. Tudi pot po kateri nas pelje do tega, baje super guesthousea ne zbuja največ zaupanja, vendar nas zadeva zelo, zelo prijetno preseneti. “Gemagedara guesthouse” … res lep, čist in velik guest house z nadvse prijaznim lastnikom in super ceno.
* * *
In Dambulla, as soon as we steped of the bus a nice local guy invites us to his friends cheap and clean guesthouse nearby. A bit worried we follow him. The path to this great guesthouse does not inspire confidence but we have to admitt … we experience a pleasant surprise. Gemagedara guesthouse … nice, clean, big guest house with extremely kind owner and great price. Price per night is 3000 rupees (less than 20 eur) and we share the room with Domen. We book the room and agree with Sunil (tuk tuk driver that brought us here) that he takes us to Pidurangala rock and some sightseeing around Sigiriya for 4000 rupees (approx. 25 eur). Pidurangala is a rock next to Sigiriya with much lower entrance fee and without bunch of tourists. Entrance fee to Sigiriya is 25 eur per person and you walk in the colon to the top. Entrance fee to Pidurangala is approx. 3 eur per person and there are almost no tourist. As you will see below … GREAT DECISION!!!

* * *
We promised to the kids that they will ride elephants on Sri Lanka, but this was the promise we broke. This was the only chance to ride elephants, but when we saw that poor animal we (together with kids) decided to skip this experience. We just could not support this animal abuse with our money!!!

* * *
Lan will remember forever how he was driving tuk tuk when he was only 5 years old 🙂

* * *
Path to the top of Pidurangala is very interesting and easy. About 45 minutes ascent with a small climbing part was piece of cake for kids 🙂

* * *
We had to keep our voices down along the way because of the bees. There are quickly disturbed by the noise and they can get quite agressive … and there were many of them :).

Otroka sta ponekod potrebovala malce pomoči …
* * *
Kids needed some help along the way …

Prvi pogled na Sigiriyo … VRHUNSKO!
* * *
First sight of Sigiriya … MAGNIFICENT!

Skupinska fotka s Sunilom, najboljšim vodičem!
* * *
Photo with Sunil, the best guide!

Malo zafrkancije … Domen nam je res popestril prve dni 🙂
* * *
Goofing around a little bit … Domen definetly made first few days of our trip interesting and fun 🙂

* * *
Sunil was really cool … he took the boys to carve their names in cactus on the top of Pidurangala. don’t ask how they were comunicating, because at that poinz kids did not understand a word in english :). That changed during our time there …

Tu sledi nekaj kul fotk Sigiriye z in brez nas v ospredju 🙂
* * *
A few cool cliscks of Sigiriya with and without us in the front 🙂

* * *
On our way down we stop in a small temple which is nothing special …

* * *
And we are back at driving tuk tuk :). And not on some dusty road and just for a few meters. They drove it a few kilometers on tha main roads :).

Meni osebno, najlepša fotka Sigiriye …
* * *
For me … the best photo of Sigiriya …

… in še ena s Sunilom.
* * *
… and one with Sunil.

To absolutno morate probat!!!
* * *
On athe qay back to Dambulla we stop in small restaurant by the road. Regardin it was really small and simple retaurant we didn’t bother to chack the price before we ordered … HUGE MISTAKE!!! YOU SHOULD ALLWAYS discuss the price first … for bus, food, taxi … everything … otherwise they just charge you way too much :). And because you were “smart” as we were there you only have one option … to pay and smile while you are doing it. Your hosts will definetly bi smilig back directly to your face and thinking about how dumm you are hahahahahahah. Anyway this lunch for 3 adults and 2 children costs us 2400 rupees (15 eur – WTF!!!???). This is 3 times more expensive than our average lunch and approx. 9 times more expensive than our cheapest lunch. But is was good and we ate like locas … with our hands :). You HAVE TO try that!!! It is way harder than eating with forks and easier than eating with sticks :). We had so mush fun :).

* * *
It was almost dark when we returned to Dambulla. On the way we (Domen and me) buy a few the most expencive beers on our trip … for 4 beers we pay 1500 rupees (10 eur) … we made the same mistake again, not asking for the price before ordering. But to tell you the truth, we were embarresed to return the beer because of the price hahahahahha. It was delicious anyway 🙂

4. dan ANURADAPHURA

Dobro jutro 🙂
Spet smo zgodaj vstali in šli na naš drugi izlet … približno 3 ure vožnje z avtobusom (bus stane 400 rupij) oddaljeno Anuradaphuro, kjer naj bi bila izredno zanimiva arheološka najdišča in neke ruševine. Vse to drži, preseneti nas le cena :/. Resno???
* * *
Good morning 🙂
We woke up early in the morning again. Today is time for our second trip … Anuradaphura which is approx 3 hours drive from Dambulla (bus costs 400 rupees). There were supposed to be some archeological sites and some interesting ruins. It is all there but the entrance fee is redicously high … 9000 rupees for 2 adults and 2 children. Seriously?? This is a robbery in the daytime :P. We soon find out that Sri Lanka is a land of smiling people, cool buses and fu**** high entrance fees.

Medtem, ko jaz tičim na wc-ju ze pol ure … sprememba hrane terja svoj davek, ki ga hvala bogu odplačam v enkratnem znesku … Lan sklepa nova prijateljstva :).
* * *
While I am stuck in the toilletes .. shit happens – this time litteraly if you know what I mean hahaha … Lan is making new friends 🙂

* * *
We dicided that we won’t pay that fee and we go towards the city center. On the way a tuk tuk driver stops us and offers us to show us some nice and interesting places and pagods in and around the city for 4000 rupees (23 eur). No on the picture is not a tuk tuk driver, it is just that this lady was more fotogenic and she has nicer smile 😉

* * *
Our first stop is WESSA GIRIYA … a pile of rocks close to the town center … interesting but nothing special …

* * *
Nice view to to the top of pagoda on the arheological area to which we did not pay entrance fee :). I belive that from the nearby it would look even better. But as you will see at the end we spent quite a lot of money for entrance fees and we just had to miss some things :/.

Naslednja postaja so kraljevi vrtovi in bližnji tempelj. Sprehod po kraljevih vrtovih je the best. Srečamo kar nekaj živali kot so opice, pave, veverice … in pa ogromno kravjih dr****, vendar nobene krave 🙂
* * *
Our next stop are royal gardens and a random temple. A walk around royal gardens is the best. We see quite a few animals like monkeys, peacocks, squirrels … and a lot of cow po***, but no cows :).

A nama pašejo kiklice :)?
* * *
What do you think about our new clothes :)? Yes, on Sri Lanka people are quite conservative. And not just aout women … they quickly complicate things with men. If our pants are just a few centimeters too short, we get this fashion enhancement … and we even have to pay for it :). But anyway … first and most important thing when traveling is … you have to respect culture, religion and peoples traditions.

* * *
In the temple we had a little bit dangerous surprise. Gal picked up the broom – I do not know why … it’s not a usual thing for him to do … and this cute cobra was hiding beneath it. If we were not barefoot (ofcourse you have to take your shoes of before entereing the temple) it would be better :). Anyway, very interesting, but also dangerous experience …

* * *
Our next stop is at this nice and big pagoda. Oh … what actually are pagodas? We thought that they are like some churches, but they are not. Pagodas were/are like some treasuries. We just take a quick look at this one and move on. One more thing … on our way to this pagoda we pick us a friend of our driver who is supposed to know a lot about Sri Lankan culture. The thing is … if we let him to join us we’ll have to pay him even we did not ask for him to come with us :). But the guy is ok and he really knows a lot we don’t complain and give him 1000 rupees at the end (6,5 eur). So this 5,5 hours long tour costs us 5000 rupees (approx. 32 eur).

* * *
This is next, supposedly the biggest pagoda in Sri Lanka.

* * *
This is friend of our driver :). He was really nice, he knew a lot and most important, he was great with kids.

* * *
Two monkeys in the park who could not wait until the evening for more privacy … the expression on face of the lady (I sure hope it was a lady hahahaha) is priceless :P.

Sredi parka se čreda “krav” namaka v hladni vodi 🙂
* * *
In the middle of the park a herd of “cows” is cooling in cold water 🙂

Tale dva bratca sta se skoraj stepla kateri se bo fotografiral :). Seveda sta prišla oba na vrsto …
* * *
Brother almost got into a fight which one will be the first on photo 🙂 Of course I took the time for both of them …

List nekega drevesa, prepognjen na pol … po tem so pagode dobile svojo obliko … zanimivo!
* * *
Leaf of some tree foled on half … after this pagodas got their shape … very interesting!

Še nekaj fotografij s poti nazaj do Dambulle …
* * *
Few clicks from our way back to Dambulla …

* * *
When we return to Dabmulla we encounter a problem … this bus does not stop at the same bus station than the one we left in the morning. And ofcourse we forgot to take a bussiness card at the hotel and the name of the hotel … damn :). Fortunately we remembered this tower from the morning and we started our search. After one wrong turn we found the hotel … thank god :). Anyway … you MUST!!! take a bussines card of the hotel before leaving it, so if you get lost you can take a cab or tuk tuk :).

Tole pa je ime našega guesthousea … Še enkrat toplo priporočam. Lepe, čiste sobe, solidna cena, topla voda!!! in pa dobra hrana … čista zmaga 🙂
* * *
This is the name of our guesthouse … I woul reccomend Gemagedara resort to enyone. Clean rooms, reasonable price, hot water!!! and good food … perfection 🙂

* * *
It’s time for dinner at the same restaurant as yesterday. Rice curry (like we had a choice) was tasty and the price was good. Food for all, some drinks and coffe costs 720 rupees (4,5 eur).

* * *
That’s all for today folks 🙂 In the start I wanted to include three days but in that cas the post would be reeeeallllyyyy loooong … especialy since in Pollonaruwa so may thing happend to us. We were dealing with the police, forgot some important things on the bus … but you will read about that stuff next time ;). Thanks for your time if you made it trough the whole post and we would appreciate a comment or some questions :).
